We’ve learned that the Society of Professional Journalists is potentially hosting their first-ever video game journalism awards.

The news was teased by Michael Koretzky, editor of Debt.com and Region 3 Director of the Society of Professional Journalists, who was recently named the SPJ 2015 Regional Director of the Year.

“Yesterday, SPJ tentatively agreed to host gaming journalism awards,” said Koretzky on Twitter. “This weekend, I’ll write a proposal. Next month, might be a done deal.”

This is a big deal for gaming journalism, which has been routinely considered an ongoing joke with some gamers and even game journalists alike.

Regardless, we take our ethics and practices very seriously here at Niche Gamer, to which you can always find our code of ethics publicly, here.
